What is Interior Decorating? Interior decorating is the art of decorating a residential home or commercial business according to a client's personal preferences and style. It includes selecting color schemes, flooring materials, furniture, artwork, and accessories. It transforms an area into an aesthetically pleasing and budget-friendly design.
Interior Decorators use elements like paint, lighting, and fabric to create living spaces that match their owner's personality. Keeping in mind things like budget, function, and personal taste, we come up with a vision for the interiors of a client's office or home.
What ARE THE STEPS:
- We will meet directly with clients before, during, and after working on their space. In the initial meeting, we will gather information related to the client’s budget, timeline, and aesthetic and functional preferences. Throughout the decoration process, the client will provide us with feedback and direction.
- After meeting with clients, we will develop several decorative plans and present them to the client. We may present several big-picture options and ideas to the client, who then selects the idea they want to pursue. During this process, we will also determine whether a plan is feasible based on a client’s budget and timeline.
- Our primary duty is selecting a variety of decorative elements for a client’s home, office, or other space (such as a retail store). Working within the client’s budget, we will choose wall paint colors and finishes, furniture pieces, and textiles such as rugs, upholstery, art to hang on walls or feature on shelves.
We manage budgets and schedules throughout the decoration process. Budget management involves not only ensuring that decorations and furniture stay within the client’s budget, but also ensuring profitability for the interior decorator. Managing schedules and deadlines is equally important, as we must maintain a steady workflow and meet client expectations.
- We may have to oversee and direct the activities of subcontractors. We may hire painters, floor refinishers, or carpenters to replace trim and molding in a client’s space. We will monitor and ensure these subcontractors complete their work according to schedule and without causing excessive inconvenience to the client. We may also pay these subcontractors directly and bill the amount to the client.
